About Us

Four people united by a common experience came together for one mission. These four people, who were advocates of deaf people first before becoming friends, witnessed the great potential of these children to be productive citizens of this country.

HOW WE STARTED

Four people united by a common experience came together for one mission. These four people, who were advocates of deaf people first before becoming friends, witnessed the great potential of these children to be productive citizens of this country. This potential is not fully actualized because of lack of opportunity. The combination of poverty and disability makes these children doubly marginalized in society. To address this, the four friends composed of two special educators, a child psychologist, and a counselor believe that deaf people can lead full and productive lives if given the chance. Together with a deaf student, these four passionate individuals envisioned a Center that will give deaf children, especially the marginalized deaf children, access to education and special services; bring them to the mainstream of society; and empower them to lead full lives. Thus, in April 2002, the LINK Center for the Deaf was established.

WHAT WE DO

We deliver an integrated support program and provide scholarships to underprivileged deaf children, their teachers and parents. We develop activities that highlight the importance of parent-teacher-child relationship and encourage involvement and active participation from other individuals, families, and groups. We forge partnerships and linkages and provide relevant information to advocate for support and active participation of individuals and organizations in the empowerment and integration of deaf people in our community.
